If you are in downtown Indianapolis, start at the Indiana Statehouse located at 200 W Washington St. Head west on Washington Street towards N Capitol Ave. Continue walking for about 0.4 miles (approximately 8-10 minutes). Turn left onto N Meridian St and walk for another 0.3 miles until you reach W Ohio St. Turn right onto W Ohio St and then take the first left onto Canal Walk. Continue on Canal Walk for about 0.2 miles (approximately 4 minutes) until you see the USS Indianapolis National Memorial on your right. The memorial is located along the scenic Canal Walk and is easily visible.

From the downtown area, find the nearest bus stop that serves the IndyGo public transit system. Board Bus Route 8 heading towards 38th St & Post Rd. After about 15 minutes, get off at the stop at W Washington St & S Illinois St. Transfer to Bus Route 1 heading towards the Canal and follow the route for about 10 minutes. Get off at the stop at W Maryland St & S West St. Walk north for about 0.3 miles along S West St, then turn right onto Canal Walk. Continue for about 0.2 miles until you reach the USS Indianapolis National Memorial, which will be on your left.
