If you are driving, start from the center of Parapat, which is a popular town by Lake Toba. Head northeast on Jl. Raya Parapat toward Jl. Tuktuk Siadong. After passing through Tuktuk Siadong, continue on Jl. Raya Toba for approximately 10 km. You will soon come across a sign for Istana Kaldera. Follow the signs, and after another 5 km, you will reach the entrance at 82V9+WM4, Tara Bunga, Tampahan. There is usually ample parking available.

To reach Istana Kaldera by public transport, start from Parapat. Look for a local minibus (angkot) heading towards Tuktuk or Tampahan. After about 30-40 minutes, ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Istana Kaldera, near Tara Bunga.
