    If you are starting from downtown Dubuque, head south on Main St toward 8th St. Continue to follow Main St as it becomes 1st St. Walk for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Locust St. Turn left onto Locust St and continue walking for approximately 0.3 miles. Then, turn right onto 16th St and walk until you reach the entrance to the Mines of Spain Recreation Area. Once inside, follow the signs to the Julien Dubuque Monument, which will be about a 1-mile hike up the trails.

    From the Dubuque Intermodal Transportation Center, take the 2A bus towards Asbury. Get off at the stop at 17th St & Elm St. From there, walk south on Elm St for about 0.2 miles until you reach the entrance to the Mines of Spain Recreation Area. Follow the signs to the Julien Dubuque Monument, which will require a hike of approximately 1 mile up the trails.

    If you have a bike, start from the downtown area and head south on the bike trails that run along the Mississippi River. Follow the trail until you reach the Mines of Spain Recreation Area entrance.
