Turn right onto Robert D Ray Dr. The Botanical Garden will be on your right. The walk is approximately 1 mile and should take about 20 minutes. There are no costs associated with walking.

The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, a 12-acre sanctuary, offers a vibrant escape into the natural world in the heart of Des Moines. Since 1979, the garden has been a place where people connect with plants and the environment. The centerpiece is an 80-foot tall geodesic-domed conservatory, housing over 1,000 tropical plant specimens. Visitors can explore diverse collections from around the world within its climate-controlled environment. The conservatory also features a living wall that changes throughout the year. Outside the dome, discover 18 themed gardens with sculptures, a water garden, a rose garden, and an Asian-style garden. These gardens showcase artistic designs inspired by music, history, art, and pop culture, using plants as the medium. The outdoor gardens reflect a commitment to developing gardens as forms of public art. The Botanical Garden's history dates back to 1929, with the completion of the Botanical Center in 1979. In 2013, it became a non-profit organization known as the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Throughout the year, the Botanical Garden hosts events, classes, and rotating programs. These include concerts, plant sales, and educational opportunities.
