The gardens have evolved over centuries, blending historical features with ongoing horticultural enhancements. The heart of Benvarden is its two-acre walled garden, believed to have originated as a semi-fortified bawn in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the Montgomery family transformed it into a modern walled garden, cultivating it continuously since 1788. Today, it features a harmonious blend of flower and vegetable gardens. Greenhouses, including a melon house and tomato house, add to the garden's charm. Beyond the walled garden, explore the extensive pleasure grounds, including a serene pond and scenic riverside walks. A notable feature is the elegant 90-foot Victorian cast-iron bridge built in 1874, offering picturesque views of the River Bush. The woodland pond, recreated by the present owners, is surrounded by Irish yews, azaleas, and camellias. Benvarden also boasts a recently renovated Stableyard Tearoom, offering refreshments in a unique diamond-shaped cobbled courtyard. Visitors can also explore a small museum displaying old farm and garden implements.
