Car

If driving from Cork City, take the N20 north and exit onto the R512 towards Glanworth. Follow the R512 to Glanworth village, then follow signs for Boherash. Glanworth Castle is located in Boherash, with parking available nearby. Note that the roads in Glanworth village are narrow, so exercise caution. Parking is free.
Public Transport

To reach Glanworth Castle via public transport from Cork, take a Bus Éireann service to Fermoy. From Fermoy, you can take a Local Link bus (route 529) or a taxi to Glanworth. The bus from Cork to Fermoy costs approximately €8-€10. A taxi from Fermoy to Glanworth will cost approximately €15-€20. Ensure you have cash, as taxis may not accept card payments.

Glanworth Castle, situated in the village of Glanworth, County Cork, is a testament to the area's rich medieval history. The castle was originally constructed in the 13th century by the Anglo-Norman Condon family (also known as de Caunteton). Perched on a cliff overlooking the River Funshion, it guarded a strategic ford. Over the centuries, the castle passed into the hands of the Roche family in the 14th century. It remained in their possession until the mid-17th century when it was confiscated during the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. During this period, it suffered damage from General Ireton's artillery in 1649. The castle was built in phases, starting with a hall-keep surrounded by a wall and gatehouse. Later additions included a tower house, corner towers, a bakehouse, and a long building with views of the river. Today, Glanworth Castle stands as a ruin, with its keep and sections of the castle wall still intact. The site is open to the public as a park, inviting visitors to explore the grounds and imagine life within its walls. From the castle, one can see the Glanworth Abbey to the northwest and the narrow, 13-arch Glanworth Bridge spanning the River Funshion.
