If you're starting from Kilkenny Castle, head southeast through the castle gardens towards the River Nore. Once you reach the river, turn left and walk along the riverbank. Continue walking until you reach the bridge (John's Bridge). Cross the bridge and head straight on to the intersection with Parliament Street. Turn right onto Parliament Street and walk until you reach the traffic lights at the junction with High Street. At the lights, continue straight onto Sráid Na Mainistreach (Main Street). Black Freren Gate will be on your right at number 12, just past the gardens.
