If you are starting from the central Piazza del Comune, head northeast towards Via Portica. Continue on Via Portica until you reach the intersection with Via San Francesco. Turn left onto Via San Francesco and follow it as it winds upwards through the charming streets of Assisi. As you climb, look for the signs directing you to the Basilica. The road will eventually lead you to the entrance of the Basilica superiore di San Francesco d'Assisi, located at Porta S. Francesco, 1.

From the Assisi train station, exit the station and turn right onto Viale Guglielmo Marconi. Walk straight for about 500 meters until you reach the first intersection. Turn left onto Via San Francesco and follow the road as it ascends towards the Basilica. It’s approximately a 20-25 minute walk, so wear comfortable shoes and take your time enjoying the views.

If you are near the Rocca Maggiore (the medieval fortress), exit the fortress and head down the path towards Via San Francesco. As you walk down, you will see signs pointing towards the Basilica.
