Getting There

• Walking

  To reach Portici di San Luca from the city center, start at Piazza Maggiore, the main square of Bologna. From the square, head southwest towards Via Rizzoli. Walk along Via Rizzoli until you reach Via Indipendenza. Continue straight on Via Indipendenza until you come to the intersection with Via Ugo Bassi. Here, take a left onto Via Ugo Bassi and walk until you arrive at the bus terminal, Stazione Autolinee in Piazza XX Settembre. At the bus terminal, look for bus number 20 or 58 heading towards 'San Luca'.

• Bus

  Once you are on bus number 20 or 58, stay on for about 15-20 minutes. The bus will take you through the outskirts of Bologna. You will need to get off at the stop 'San Luca'. After getting off, you will see signs directing you towards the Portici di San Luca. Walk up the hill following the path that leads to the iconic portico. The walk will take approximately 10 minutes, and you will be treated to beautiful views of Bologna as you ascend.

• Walking

  If you prefer to walk the entire distance, you can walk along the scenic Via di San Luca which leads directly to the portico. From Piazza Maggiore, head towards Via Rizzoli, then continue to Via Indipendenza. Follow Via Indipendenza until you reach the intersection with Via Ugo Bassi. Once on Via Ugo Bassi, continue straight until you reach the entrance of the Portico di San Luca. The total walking distance is about 3.5 km and will take approximately 45 minutes, but the picturesque views along the way make it worthwhile.
