Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Milan, take the A4 motorway towards Bergamo. Continue on the A4 for approximately 50 km until you reach the exit for Bergamo. Follow the signs for Bergamo and merge onto the SS671. After about 5 km, follow the signs for 'Centro' and then for 'Viale delle Mura'. You will find parking options around the city center, including 'Parcheggio Centrale' which is a paid parking area (cost around €1.50 per hour). From there, walk to Viale delle Mura, and you will reach Baluardo San Giacomo in about 10 minutes.

• Train and Walking

  To get to Baluardo San Giacomo via public transportation, take a train from any major city in Lombardy (e.g., Milan) to Bergamo. The journey from Milan to Bergamo takes about 50 minutes and costs approximately €5. Once you arrive at Bergamo train station, you can take bus number 1 (direction 'Città Alta') or a taxi to the city center. If you choose the bus, it costs around €2. Get off at the 'Funicolare' stop and from there, you can walk up to Baluardo San Giacomo which is about a 15-minute walk through the picturesque streets of Bergamo.

• Public Transport from Orio al Serio Airport

  If you are arriving at Orio al Serio Airport, you can take the airport shuttle bus to Bergamo city center. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes and costs about €2.50. Once you arrive at the bus terminal in the city center, you can either walk or take a taxi to Baluardo San Giacomo. The walk will take approximately 20 minutes. Alternatively, you can catch bus number 1 (direction 'Città Alta') which will take you closer to the fortress.
