Travel Guide to Porta al Prato

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head towards Florence and use the A1 highway. Take the exit for Firenze Scandicci and follow the signs for the city center. Once you're close to Florence, continue straight on Via Pisana, which turns into Viale Ludovico Ariosto. Follow Viale Ariosto until you reach Viale Francesco Redi. Turn left onto Viale Redi and continue until you reach Piazzale della Porta al Prato. There is limited street parking available, so be prepared to park in a nearby lot if necessary, which typically costs around €1.50 per hour.

• Public Transportation - Train

  If you are using public transportation, take a train to Firenze Santa Maria Novella (SMN), the main train station in Florence. From SMN, exit the station and head to the nearby bus station. Take bus number 23 towards 'Piazza della Libertà' and get off at 'Porta al Prato.' The bus ride takes about 15 minutes, and a one-way ticket costs around €1.50. Be sure to validate your ticket before boarding.

• Public Transportation - Tram

  Another option is to take the tram. From Firenze Santa Maria Novella, walk to the tram station and take Tram Line T1 towards 'Careggi.' Get off at the 'Porta al Prato' stop, which is a short walk from the landmark. The tram ride takes approximately 10 minutes, and a ticket costs €1.50. Remember to validate your ticket before boarding the tram.

• Walking

  If you are staying within the historic center of Florence, you can also walk to Porta al Prato. From the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore), head southwest on Via dei Calzaiuoli. Continue onto Via della Condotta, then turn left onto Via dei Banchi. Follow the road until you reach the Arno River. Cross the river via Ponte alla Carraia and continue along Lungarno Aldo Moro. After a short walk, you will reach Piazzale della Porta al Prato. The total walking distance is approximately 2 kilometers and will take around 25 minutes.
