Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Hakata Station in Fukuoka, take the JR Chikuhi Line towards Chikuzen-Maebaru Station; the ride is approximately 40 minutes. From there, take the Nishitetsu Bus (No. 100 or 101) towards Shimakeya, about a 25-minute bus ride. From the Shimakeya bus stop, it's a 10-minute walk north, following the signs to 'Totoro Forest'. Bus fare from Maebaru Station to Shimakeya is approximately ¥400.

  • Car

    From Fukuoka city center, drive to Itoshima (approximately 30 minutes). Follow Route 200 towards Itoshima and then the signs towards 'Shimakeya'. Parking is available near the forest entrance. Note that parking may be limited, especially during peak season. Toll road fees may apply, typically around ¥500.

  • Walking

    From Keya Fishing Port, walk northeast along the coastline for about 10 minutes and continue north from the parking lot of Keya no Oto Park. Follow the path, and you will see a large signboard in front of a small torii gate. The entrance to the forest is within the Genkai Kokutei Koen (Genkai Quasi-National Park), near Taiso Shrine.
