    Takayama Jinya, a nationally designated historic landmark, stands as a unique testament to Japan's Edo period. From 1692, the complex served as the administrative headquarters for the Hida region under the direct control of the Tokugawa Shogunate for 176 years. The shogunate dispatched 25 generations of governors and magistrates to rule Hida Province until 1868. Takayama Jinya is the only such site of a provincial governor/magistrate's office where the main building still remains today.Inside the well-preserved buildings, visitors can explore various rooms that once served as offices, conference rooms, guest rooms, and residential spaces. An interesting interrogation room offers a glimpse into the judicial practices of the time. The complex also features a large storehouse, dating back to the 1600s, which is now a museum showcasing belongings and official documents of past local leaders, old maps of the Hida Region, and historic town plans.Takayama Jinya also features unique decorations, such as the wave pattern and Mamuki Rabbits on the pillars. The garden is a tranquil space that offers seasonal beauty, especially during cherry blossom season.
