Discover more about Tokyo Skytree

The Tokyo Skytree, soaring 634 meters (2,080 feet) above Sumida, Tokyo, is more than just a tower; it's a symbol of the city's innovative spirit and a testament to modern engineering. Since its opening on May 22, 2012, it has become a landmark, drawing millions of visitors each year to experience its breathtaking views and explore the surrounding Tokyo Skytree Town.Designed by Nikken Sekkei, the Skytree's architecture is a fusion of traditional Japanese beauty and cutting-edge technology. Its unique cylindrical shape and smooth curves are reminiscent of a samurai sword, while its base features a three-beam structure that transitions into a circular form as it ascends. This design not only provides aesthetic appeal but also enhances the tower's resistance to earthquakes and strong winds, crucial in Japan's seismically active environment. The height of 634 meters was deliberately chosen because the numbers 6 (mu), 3 (sa), and 4 (shi) can be combined to represent "Musashi", an old name for the region where the Skytree stands. The Skytree has two primary observation decks: the Tembo Deck at 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. Both offer stunning panoramic views of Tokyo, the Kanto region, and even Mount Fuji on a clear day. The Tembo Deck features a glass floor, providing a thrilling experience for visitors who dare to look straight down. The Tembo Galleria, dubbed "the world's highest skywalk," consists of a sloping spiral ramp that encircles the tower, offering unique perspectives of the city below. At the base of the Skytree lies Tokyo Skytree Town, a large shopping and entertainment complex. Here, visitors can explore over 300 shops and restaurants, as well as attractions such as the Sumida Aquarium and the Planetarium Tenku. The complex offers a variety of experiences, from souvenir shopping to enjoying local cuisine, making it a destination in itself.
