Car
If you're driving from Sapporo, take the Hokkaido Expressway (道央自動車道) towards Asahikawa. Exit the expressway at the Kamikawa Interchange and follow Route 39 towards Kamikawa. Continue on Route 39 until you reach Sounkyo. From there, follow the signs to the Ginga Waterfall parking area. Be sure to check for parking fees, which can vary depending on the season.
Public Transportation
To reach Ginga Waterfall using public transportation, start from Sapporo Station and take the Limited Express train to Asahikawa Station (approximately 1.5 hours). From Asahikawa Station, take a bus towards Sounkyo Onsen. The bus ride will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive at Sounkyo Onsen, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to Ginga Waterfall, which is about a 30-minute walk from the bus stop.
Combination of Car and Walking
If you have a car but want to enjoy some exercise, drive to Sounkyo and park at the designated parking area near the waterfall entrance. From the parking lot, it's a pleasant 15-minute hike to the waterfall itself. The trail is well-marked, and you’ll enjoy beautiful scenic views along the way.
