Car
From Kai, take Route 20 heading west. Continue on this road until you reach the junction with Route 152. Merge onto Route 152 and follow the signs towards Nagasaki. After approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, you will reach Unzen Onsen located at Obamacho Unzen, Unzen, Nagasaki 854-0621. Make sure to have some cash on hand for tolls along the expressway, which can cost around ¥1,000 to ¥2,000 depending on your route.
Public Transportation
Begin your journey at Kai Station. Take a train on the Chuo Main Line to Nagoya Station (approximately 2 hours). From Nagoya, transfer to the Limited Express train heading to Isahaya Station (about 1 hour). At Isahaya Station, switch to a local bus that goes directly to Unzen Onsen. The bus ride will take around 30 minutes. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance as the frequency may vary throughout the day, and prepare around ¥1,500 for the bus fare.
