Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano/San-in Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station (approx. 16 minutes). From there, it's a 10-minute walk to the central Arashiyama area. Alternatively, take Kyoto City Bus #28 from Kyoto Station to Arashiyama-Tenryuji-mae (approx. 30 minutes). The Keifuku Arashiyama Line connects Arashiyama with Omiya Station in central Kyoto (20 minutes, 250 yen).

    From Saga-Arashiyama Station, walk north towards the Togetsukyo Bridge. Cross the bridge to enter the main Arashiyama area. The Bamboo Grove is located to the north of Tenryu-ji Temple, a short walk from the bridge. Iwatayama Monkey Park is located on the opposite side of the Oi River, south of the Togetsukyo Bridge.

  • Taxi

    A taxi from downtown Kyoto to Arashiyama takes approximately 25 minutes and costs around ¥2000. Taxis can drop you off near the Togetsukyo Bridge or the entrance to Tenryu-ji Temple.
