The Kanazawa Castle Park Ote-mon Entrance welcomes visitors to a site steeped in history, once the stronghold of the powerful Maeda clan during the Edo period. The castle grounds have transformed over time, serving as a religious school, an army base, and a university campus before becoming the Kanazawa Castle Park. While the main castle keep was destroyed by fire in 1602 and never rebuilt, several structures have been reconstructed to reflect their former glory. These include the Hishi Yagura turret, Gojikken Nagaya warehouse, and Hashizume-mon Tsuzuki Yagura turret, showcasing traditional construction methods. The castle is known for its distinctive white lead tiles, used for fireproofing and defense. Visitors can explore the vast park grounds, which are free to enter, and view the reconstructed gates, such as the Kahoku-mon and Nezumita-mon. The Ishikawa-mon Gate, a designated Important National Cultural Property, is a short walk from Kenrokuen Garden and is one of the castle's surviving original structures. The Gyokuseninmaru Garden, reconstructed in 2015, offers a serene landscape with a central pond and walking paths.
