The Icicles of Misotsuchi are a breathtaking winter attraction in the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, Saitama Prefecture. These natural icicles, one of Chichibu's three great icicle formations, are created by spring water that trickles over rocks and freezes in the frigid winter temperatures. The result is a stunning display of ice art, with icicles reaching up to 10 meters in height and 30 meters in width.The Misotsuchi Icicles offer a magical experience, especially when illuminated at night with colored lights that represent the four seasons of Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park. Visitors can view the icicles from either side of the Arakawa River, with the north side being more accessible. The south side, near Tsuchiuchi Camping Ground, features even larger, though partially man-made, icicles.The best time to visit is from mid-January to mid-February, when the icicles are at their peak. During this period, the Otaki Ice Festival takes place, adding to the festive atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy local food and drinks while marveling at the icy scenery.

Getting There
Public Transport
From Seibu-Chichibu Station, take the Seibu Kanko Bus bound for Mitsumine Shrine. Get off at the Misotsuchi bus stop, which is approximately a 45-minute bus ride. From the bus stop, it is a 5-10 minute walk to the icicles. The bus fare is approximately ¥820.
Car
From the Hanazono Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway, take the Chichibu Oukan Highway (Route 140) towards Chichibu. The icicles are approximately 47 kilometers from the interchange. Parking is available at the Tsuchiuchi Camping Ground or near the Woodroof campsite for around ¥500 for cars, ¥200 for bikes, and ¥1000 for buses. Be aware of potential road freezing during the winter season.
