Discover more about Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge is more than just a means of transportation; it's a landmark that embodies Tokyo's vibrant spirit. Spanning 798 meters across Tokyo Bay, this double-decked suspension bridge connects the mainland to the artificial island of Odaiba, a hub of entertainment and attractions. Construction of the bridge began in 1987 and concluded in 1993, with Kawasaki Heavy Industries undertaking the design and build. The bridge's name was chosen by the public, reflecting its role as a symbol of connection and progress. The towers are painted white to harmonize with Tokyo's skyline, and illuminated at night with rainbow-colored lights, powered by solar energy. The lights change colors depending on the season and events. The Rainbow Bridge carries multiple transportation lines : * The upper deck is part of the Shuto Expressway. * The lower deck accommodates the Yurikamome Line, local roads, and pedestrian walkways. Pedestrians can access the bridge via walkways on either side of the lower deck. The north side offers views of the inner Tokyo harbor and Tokyo Tower, while the south side provides views of Tokyo Bay and, on clear days, Mount Fuji. Walking across takes about 20-30 minutes. Bicycles are allowed but must be pushed. Whether you're walking, driving, or riding the Yurikamome Line, the Rainbow Bridge offers a unique perspective on Tokyo's beauty, connecting you to the excitement of Odaiba.
