Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, exit the grove and head south on Arashiyama Main Street. Continue straight for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Saga-Tenryuji Station. From there, turn left onto Saga-Tenryuji Street and walk straight for another 5 minutes. Tenryu-ji will be on your right, just before you reach the main entrance.

Public Transport (Train)
If you are near the Arashiyama Station, take the JR Sagano Line towards Kameoka. Get off at Saga-Tenryuji Station (it’s just one stop). Once you exit the station, turn right and follow the signs for Tenryu-ji. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the station to the temple. Please note that the train fare is about 210 yen one way.

Public Transport (Bus)
If you prefer to take a bus, you can catch the Kyoto City Bus #28 or #11 from the Arashiyama area. The bus will take you to the Tenryuji-mae stop, which is very close to the temple. After getting off, walk a few minutes towards the entrance of Tenryu-ji. The bus fare is approximately 230 yen.
