Forest of Cherry Trees at Moerenuma Park
Experience the serene beauty of Sapporo's Forest of Cherry Trees, a harmonious blend of nature and art within Moerenuma Park.
The Forest of Cherry Trees, nestled within Sapporo's Moerenuma Park, offers a serene escape with its breathtaking display of approximately 1,900 cherry trees. Predominantly sargent cherries, the forest transforms into a spectacle of pink and white blossoms each spring, drawing locals and tourists alike to revel in its tranquil beauty. Designed by the renowned Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi, the forest embodies his vision of blending art and nature seamlessly. Noguchi, who conceptualized the entire park as a single, unified sculpture, ensured that even the playground areas within the forest contribute to this artistic harmony. Hidden among the cherry trees are seven distinct playground areas, each equipped with 126 pieces of colorful, geometric playground equipment designed by Noguchi himself. These interactive sculptures encourage children to develop their own ideas and styles of play, fostering creativity and imagination. Beyond the cherry blossoms, the Forest of Cherry Trees provides a diverse range of flora and well-maintained pathways that meander through lush greenery, inviting visitors to explore and discover hidden nooks. The park offers spacious open areas for families, romantic spots for couples under the blooming trees, and amenities such as benches and restrooms for a comfortable visit. The Forest of Cherry Trees is an ideal destination for relaxation, nature walks, and family outings.
