Kyoto Theater, or Kyoto-Gekijo, is a modern theater located within the Kyoto Station Building. This provides exceptional access for visitors arriving in Kyoto by train. The theater hosts a diverse range of performances, including musicals, plays, concerts, and dance performances, as well as lectures and symposiums.
Despite being a mid-sized theater with 941 seats, its facilities are comparable to those of larger venues. The seating arrangement ensures excellent views of the stage from every seat, with the furthest seat on the first floor only 27 meters away.

Public Transport
From Kyoto Station, follow signs within the station building directing you to the Kyoto Theater. The theater is directly connected to the station, making it easily accessible. Kyoto Station is a major transportation hub with access to JR lines, the Kyoto Municipal Subway, and various bus lines. A single subway ride costs between ¥220-360. A single bus ride within the city is ¥230. Consider a Kyoto Subway and Bus 1-Day Pass for ¥1,100 if you plan to use public transport extensively.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available at Kyoto Station. Exit the station and look for the taxi stands. The taxi fare from Kyoto Station to the Kyoto Theater is approximately ¥620 for the first 1.5km, with additional fees for longer distances. Most taxis accept cash and credit cards. Using a taxi app like Uber or Go can also be helpful.
Walking
The Kyoto Theater is located within the Kyoto Station Building, making walking the most straightforward option once you are at the station. Follow the signs inside the station to reach the theater. The walk is short and entirely indoors.
