Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start by heading to the nearest major road, Route 2. From there, merge onto the Kyoto Expressway. Follow the signs for Kyoto and take the exit toward Higashiyama. Once you exit, continue on Route 1 and follow the signs for Kiyomizu-dera. There is usually parking available near the temple, but be mindful of parking fees which can vary. Expect to pay around 500-1000 yen for a few hours of parking.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, first head to the nearest train station in Suō. You can take the Sanyo Shinkansen to Himeji Station, then transfer to the JR Tōkaidō Line bound for Kyoto. Once you arrive at Kyoto Station, exit and locate the bus terminal. Take bus number 100 or 206, which directly services Kiyomizu-dera. The bus fare is approximately 230 yen. The bus will drop you off at the Kiyomizu-michi stop, from where it is a short walk to the temple entrance.

• Taxi

  Another option is to take a taxi directly to Kiyomizu-dera. This can be a convenient choice if you're traveling with luggage or prefer a more direct route. Simply tell the driver 'Kiyomizu-dera' and they will take you there. The fare from central Suō to Kiyomizu-dera will typically range from 3000 to 5000 yen, depending on traffic conditions.
