Hōkan-ji Temple is located in the Higashiyama district and is easily accessible on foot from many nearby attractions. From Kiyomizu-dera Temple, walk east along the main street, then turn north onto a smaller lane leading towards the pagoda. The walk takes approximately 15-20 minutes. From Yasaka Shrine, walk south along Higashioji Street, then turn east onto a narrow street leading to the temple. This walk is about 10 minutes. No costs are involved.

Public Transport
The closest bus stops to Hōkan-ji Temple are Higashiyama-Yasui and Kiyomizu-michi. From Kyoto Station, take bus number 206 to either of these stops. The journey takes approximately 20-25 minutes. From Gion-Shijo Station, take bus number 207 to Kiyomizu-michi. The bus fare within the flat fare zone is ¥230 for adults and ¥120 for children.

Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Kyoto. A short taxi ride from Kyoto Station to Hōkan-ji Temple will cost approximately ¥1500-¥2000, depending on traffic. From Gion, a taxi ride to the temple will be around ¥800-¥1000. Note that taxis may have difficulty navigating the narrow streets directly around the temple. The starting fare for a taxi in Kyoto is ¥490.
