Discover more about Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center

Located directly across from the iconic Kaminarimon Gate, the Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center serves as a modern gateway to the historic Asakusa district in Tokyo. Designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma, the building itself is a striking attraction, resembling a stack of traditional wooden houses. Opened in April 2012, the center's mission is to welcome visitors and provide comprehensive support for exploring the area. Inside, visitors will find multilingual information counters offering guidance in English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Staff can provide maps, brochures, and advice on local sightseeing, cultural experiences, transportation, and accommodations. The center also offers free Wi-Fi, currency exchange, and computer access. The upper floors feature an exhibition space showcasing the history and culture of Asakusa, and an observation deck on the 8th floor providing stunning views of the Kaminarimon Gate, Sensoji Temple, Tokyo Skytree, and the surrounding cityscape. The Miharashi Café on the 8th floor offers light refreshments while enjoying the view. The center is open daily from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm; the observation deck remains open until 10:00 pm. The building stands on land that was once occupied by a bank. The city of Taito acquired the land and built a tourist center in 1985, which was later replaced by Kuma's design. Kuma's design was inspired by traditional nagaya houses and incorporates cedar wood to create a unique and welcoming space. The Asakusa Culture Tourist Information Center embodies the motto: 'Finding, Showing, and Supporting' visitors to Asakusa.
