Car
If you're driving from Tosa to Arashiyama, start by getting onto the Kochi Expressway (Kochi Toll Road) from Tosa. Follow the signs for the expressway and stay on it for about 90 minutes. Take the exit toward Kyoto and merge onto the Meishin Expressway. After approximately 20 minutes, take the exit toward Kyoto City and follow the signs to Arashiyama. You will enter the city and can follow the signs for Arashiyama attractions. Note that parking can be limited, so plan to arrive early to secure a space.
Public Transportation - Train
To reach Arashiyama via public transportation, you can take a train from Tosa. Start by taking the Tosa Kuroshio Railway from Tosa Station to Kochi Station. The ticket price is approximately ¥1,000. From Kochi Station, transfer to the JR Shikoku Line and take the train towards Takamatsu. Get off at Kyoto Station (total travel time is about 2.5 hours). From Kyoto Station, transfer to the JR San-in Line and take the train to Saga-Arashiyama Station. The fare for this segment is about ¥240 and takes around 15 minutes. Once you arrive at Saga-Arashiyama Station, it's a short 10-minute walk to the main attractions of Arashiyama.
Public Transportation - Bus
If you prefer buses, you can take a highway bus from Tosa to Kyoto. From Tosa, catch a highway bus at the Tosa Bus Terminal. The trip to Kyoto takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours and costs around ¥3,500. Once you arrive at Kyoto Station, you can transfer to the JR San-in Line and head to Saga-Arashiyama Station. After exiting the station, it’s a 10-minute walk to the scenic areas of Arashiyama.
