    Getting There

    Walking

From the Petra Visitor Center, enter the archaeological site and follow the main path towards the Siq, the narrow canyon that leads you into the city of Petra. Walk through the Siq until you reach the iconic Treasury (Al-Khazneh). After taking some time to enjoy the view, continue walking straight along the main trail. You will come to a junction; take the path that leads to the left towards the 'Monastery' signs. The path will start to ascend, and you will see a series of steps. Follow these steep steps (approximately 800 in total) upwards. Along the way, there are several resting spots where you can take breaks. Continue until you reach the top, where The Monastery will be waiting for you, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

    Horse

From the Petra Visitor Center, you can choose to take a horse ride to the base of the Siq. Horse rides are available at the entrance, and they will take you to the main entrance of Petra. Once you arrive at the Treasury (Al-Khazneh), you will have to dismount and continue on foot. Follow the same path as described in the walking option towards the left at the junction, and ascend the 800 steps to reach The Monastery. Horses are not allowed on the stairs, so be prepared to walk the final stretch.

    Donkey

After entering Petra, you can rent a donkey at the base of the Siq. The donkey ride will take you along the main path to the Treasury (Al-Khazneh). Once you arrive at the Treasury, you must dismount. From here, follow the directions towards the left path at the junction, where you will find the steep stone steps. Donkeys can be used on some of the trail, but you will need to walk the last portion up the 800 steps to reach The Monastery.
