Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Almaty city center. Head southeast on Dostyk Avenue, which becomes Al-Farabi Avenue. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with the Medeu Road (Medeu Shosse). Turn left onto Medeu Road, and follow it for about 17 km. You will pass the famous Medeu Ice Rink on your right. Continue on this road until you reach the Youth Pass area, which is marked by the coordinates 43.062943, 77.056208. Look for signs indicating hiking trails or the Youth Pass area as you approach.

Public Transportation
To reach Youth Pass using public transportation, take bus number 12 or 28 from the Almaty city center. These buses head towards the Medeu area. You can catch these buses from various stops in the city, such as the Abay Metro Station. Once you reach the Medeu bus station, you will need to walk approximately 3 km uphill on Medeu Road to reach Youth Pass. Alternatively, you can look for a shared taxi (marshrutka) heading towards Medeu, which will drop you closer to your destination.

If you are already in the Almaty Mountains and are looking for a hiking route, you can start from the Medeu area. Follow the marked trails that lead up into the mountains. The paths are well-maintained, but be sure to bring sufficient water and snacks for the hike. The hike to Youth Pass can take approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. Ensure you have a map or a GPS device, as some trails may not be well-signposted.
