Car
If you are driving from Isiolo, take the A2 road heading east. Continue on this road for approximately 50 kilometers until you reach the junction for the C77 road. Turn left onto the C77 and continue for about 12 kilometers. Follow the signs for Shaba National Reserve, which will lead you directly to the entrance. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain, as the last stretch may have unpaved roads.
Public Transportation
From Isiolo, you can take a matatu (shared taxi) heading towards Garissa. Inform the driver that you want to stop at the Shaba National Reserve junction. The journey typically costs around 300 KES and takes about 1.5 hours. Upon reaching the junction, you may need to hire a local taxi or arrange for a 4x4 vehicle to take you the remaining 12 kilometers to the reserve entrance.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Isiolo directly to Shaba National Reserve. This option is more expensive, typically costing between 3,000 to 5,000 KES depending on negotiation. Ensure the taxi is a 4x4 for better handling on rough roads. The journey will take approximately 1 hour.
