Car
If you are driving, start from the city of Thakhek, head south on Route 13 for about 50 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Route 8. Follow Route 8 for approximately 20 kilometers, then turn right onto the road leading to Tham Nang Aen Cave. The cave is located about 5 kilometers down this road. There is a small parking area near the entrance. Be sure to have some cash on hand for potential entrance fees or parking charges.
Public Transportation
To reach Tham Nang Aen Cave via public transportation, take a bus from Thakhek to the town of Mahaxai. Buses run regularly and the fare is quite affordable (approximately 10,000 LAK). Once you arrive at Mahaxai, you will need to hire a tuk-tuk or a local taxi to take you to Tham Nang Aen Cave, which is about 20 kilometers away. The tuk-tuk ride will cost around 30,000 to 50,000 LAK, depending on your negotiation skills. Make sure to confirm the fare before starting your journey.
Rental Scooter
For a more adventurous option, consider renting a scooter in Thakhek. After renting, take Route 13 south for about 50 kilometers, then switch to Route 8. Continue for around 20 kilometers before taking a right turn onto the road leading to Tham Nang Aen Cave. The ride will take approximately 1-1.5 hours, depending on your speed. Be aware of local traffic laws and wear a helmet for safety. Rental costs typically range from 60,000 to 100,000 LAK per day.
