Discover more about Kronvalda Park

Kronvalda Park, originally known as Strēlnieku Garden, spans 11.92 hectares alongside the city canal, offering a serene escape in central Riga. The park's history dates back to 1863 when the German Riflemen Society established a society house and shooting-ground after the city's dikes were dismantled. In 1883, architect Georgs Kūfalts expanded the park, incorporating around 2,000 rose bushes in meticulously designed flowerbeds. In 1927, the State transferred the garden to the city's inhabitants, tasking garden architect Andrejs Zeidaks with creating a landscaped park. During the 1930s, it was named after Atis Kronvalds, a member of the Young Latvians Movement. Today, Kronvalda Park is home to Latvia's largest willow tree, as well as the largest cork tree and beech tree with dark red leaves in Riga. Visitors can enjoy a playground, café, underground parking, and roller-skating tracks. In summer, boat and water bicycle rentals are available. The park also features a decorative lighthouse, fountains, sculptures, and monuments. A segment of the Berlin Wall is placed in Kronvalda Park, in front of the former Communist Party Central Committee headquarters. Kronvalda Park hosts various events, including exhibitions and comedy shows. Its central location allows visitors to combine their park visit with nearby attractions like the Freedom Monument and House of the Black Heads.
