    Discover more about Alpschaukäserei Schwägalp

The Alpschaukäserei Schwägalp, located at the base of the Säntis massif, is a living testament to Appenzell's rich cheese-making heritage. Established in 1996 by farmers who graze their cows on the surrounding Alps during the summer, the cheese factory has been producing high-quality cheese with passion and care. More than 50 local farming families deliver fresh alpine milk to the factory between May and September. This milk is then transformed into the renowned Schwägalp cheese in large copper vats using traditional methods. Visitors can observe the cheese-making process through a large glass front, witnessing the pressing and tending of the cheese. Besides Schwägalp cheese, the factory also produces other specialties such as Raclette cheese, Mutschli, butter, and goat cheese. The factory shop offers a variety of regional milk products, including Schwägalp cheese, Mutschli, and other locally made dairy products. The shop is open daily from May to October. The Schwägalp cheese is known for its balanced aroma and unique character, reflecting the natural beauty and traditional craftsmanship of the region.
