Discover more about Pulverturm

The Pulverturm, a stout sentinel at the western edge of Lindau Island, stands as a proud reminder of the town's medieval past. Constructed in 1508 as part of Lindau's fortifications, the tower initially served as a crucial defensive structure. Its strategic location and solid construction helped protect the town from invaders. In 1629, the tower's tent roof was lowered to reduce its vulnerability to attack, a decision that proved effective during the Thirty Years' War. Later, in the late 18th century, the tower was repurposed as a gunpowder storage facility, hence its name, Pulverturm. Today, the Pulverturm is a popular attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into Lindau's rich history. While the tower's interior is not generally open to the public, its exterior provides a striking photo opportunity, especially against the backdrop of Lake Constance and the Alps. The tower can also be booked for events. The surrounding area features a picturesque park, perfect for a leisurely stroll and enjoying the stunning scenery.
