To reach Mackworth Island from downtown South Portland, start by walking to the nearest bus stop on Broadway. Catch the METRO bus route 21 towards Falmouth. The ride should take about 20 minutes. Get off at the Falmouth Crossing/Route 1 stop. From there, walk along Route 1 North for approximately 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance to Mackworth Island. Follow the signs to the island's entrance.

Bicycle
If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in South Portland. Head north on the Eastern Promenade Trail, which connects to the Stroudwater Trail. Follow the trail until you reach the intersection with Route 1. Turn left on Route 1 and continue for about 1 mile north until you see the entrance to Mackworth Island on your right.

Walking
If you enjoy walking, you can start from the South Portland waterfront. Walk along the waterfront path heading north towards the Casco Bay Bridge. After crossing the bridge, continue straight onto Route 1 North. It is about a 1.5-mile walk from the bridge to the entrance of Mackworth Island. Be sure to watch for traffic as you walk along the road.
