Walking
From the center of Zomba, head towards the Zomba Central Market. Once you reach the market, look for the road leading south towards the Zomba Plateau. Follow this road until you reach the Kuchawe Inn, which is a well-known landmark. From the Kuchawe Inn, continue walking south towards the Kuchawe area. Keep an eye out for local signposts directing you to Maria Falls. The path may be a bit steep, so be prepared for a short hike. As you walk, enjoy the lush surroundings and listen for the sound of the falls. After approximately 3 kilometers, you will reach Maria Falls, which is a stunning natural attraction.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle in Zomba and start your journey by heading towards the Zomba Plateau. Cycle south on the main road until you reach Kuchawe Inn. From there, continue along the same road, watching for signs that indicate the direction to Maria Falls. The terrain can be hilly, so be prepared for some uphill cycling. The total distance is about 3 kilometers, and you should be able to reach the falls in about 15-20 minutes, depending on your cycling speed.
Local Transport
In Zomba, you can also use local transport options such as 'dala dalas' (shared taxis) or motorcycle taxis. Head to the nearest dala dala stand and ask for a ride to Kuchawe. Once you arrive at Kuchawe, get off near Kuchawe Inn. From there, you can either walk to Maria Falls or hire a local guide to help you navigate the final stretch. The distance from Kuchawe Inn to the falls is about 3 kilometers, which may take around 30 minutes on foot.
