Start at Sandakan Central Market, which is a popular location in the city. From there, walk east on Jalan Leila towards Jalan Buli Sim Sim. After about 500 meters, turn left onto Jalan Buli Sim Sim. Continue walking straight for approximately 1 kilometer until you reach the junction with Jalan Istana. Turn right onto Jalan Istana, and the Sandakan Japanese Cemetery will be on your left after about 200 meters. Look for the entrance marked with a sign.

Head to the nearest bus stop from your location in Sandakan. Look for a bus heading towards Jalan Istana. The bus service is quite frequent. Once you board the bus, inform the driver that you are heading to Sandakan Japanese Cemetery. After a short ride (approximately 15-20 minutes depending on traffic), disembark at the stop closest to Jalan Istana. Walk about 200 meters on Jalan Istana, and you will find the cemetery on your left.
