    From the Mġarr Ferry Terminal, take bus 322 towards Marsalforn. Get off at the Xagħra bus stop. From there, walk along Triq il-Knisja towards the Xagħra Parish Church. Turn left onto Triq l-Għar ta' Xerri. Xerri's Grotto will be on your left, a short distance down the street. A single bus ticket costs €2.

Xerri's Grotto, nestled beneath an ordinary house in Xagħra, Gozo, offers a unique glimpse into the island's subterranean beauty. In 1924, Anthony Xerri was digging a well when he stumbled upon a hidden cave adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Today, Xerri's descendants maintain and conduct tours of the grotto, sharing its history and geological significance with visitors.The adventure begins with a descent down a narrow, 10-meter spiral staircase that was originally the well shaft. The cave is illuminated, revealing a mesmerizing collection of calcified formations. Some formations are said to resemble animals like a tortoise, vulture, giraffe, and even elephant ears. The cave also features tree roots that have undergone calcification, adding to the grotto's unique character. The cave maintains a constant temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, offering a cool respite from the Gozitan heat.During World War II, the Xerri family extended the cave and used it as an air raid shelter for the neighborhood. This bit of history adds another layer of intrigue to the site. The tour is typically led by a member of the Xerri family, offering a personal touch and insights into the grotto's discovery and history.
