Discover more about Blue Hole

The Blue Hole is a geological marvel on Gozo's western coast, near Dwejra Bay. This natural wonder is a circular sinkhole formed by the dissolution of limestone over millennia. The roof of an underground cavern weakened and collapsed, creating the Blue Hole. Divers and snorkelers are drawn to its crystal-clear waters and unique underwater formations. A large underwater archway, at depths of 6 to 15 meters, connects the Blue Hole to the open sea. The site is teeming with marine life, including colorful wrasses, parrotfish, moray eels, groupers, and the occasional barracuda. The upper levels (10-15 meters) are excellent for snorkeling and beginner divers. While the Azure Window, a natural limestone arch, collapsed in 2017, its remnants now lie on the seafloor, creating a unique underwater landscape. These massive boulders have become a habitat for marine life, adding a new dimension to the Blue Hole dive. The Blue Hole is part of the Dwejra Marine Conservation Area, emphasizing the commitment to preserving the area's natural beauty and biodiversity.
