Car
If you are driving to C&O Canal Lock 8 from the Billy Goat Trail area, start by heading southeast on the main trail until you reach the parking lot at the Great Falls Park entrance. From there, get onto MacArthur Blvd (MD-189) heading south. Continue for about 3 miles until you reach the intersection with Georgetown Pike (VA-193). Turn right onto Georgetown Pike. After approximately 1 mile, turn left onto Lock 8 Road, which will lead you directly to the parking area for Lock 8. Keep in mind that parking is available but may incur a small fee, typically around $10 for the day.

Public Transportation
To reach C&O Canal Lock 8 using public transportation, first locate the nearest Metro station, such as the Friendship Heights station on the Red Line. Board a train heading toward Glenmont and get off at the next stop, which is the Bethesda station. From Bethesda, you can catch the Ride On Bus #34 toward the Potomac. Get off at the Cabin John Park stop, which is about a 10-minute walk from Lock 8. Walk north on MacArthur Blvd for about 0.5 miles, then turn onto Lock 8 Road, which will lead you directly to the Lock. Note that the bus fare is approximately $1.50, and remember to check the bus schedule in advance as it may vary.
