Public Transit - Bus
From Laurel, head to the nearest bus stop for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus service. Take the MTA Route 89 towards the Greenbelt Metro Station. The bus will take you to the Greenbelt Metro Station. Once you arrive, transfer to the Washington Metro's Green Line towards Branch Avenue. Ride the Metro until you reach the Gallery Place-Chinatown station. At Gallery Place, transfer to the Red Line towards Glenmont. Ride the Red Line for three stops and get off at the Farragut North station. From the Farragut North Metro station, walk northwest on 17th Street NW for about 5 minutes to reach the National Geographic Museum located at 1145 17th St NW.

Walking
If you are already in downtown Laurel, start at the Laurel Town Center. Head west on Main Street until you reach the intersection with Route 1 (Baltimore Avenue). Turn right onto Route 1 and continue walking north for about 1 mile until you reach the Laurel MARC Train Station. From there, catch a train heading towards Washington, D.C. Once you arrive at Union Station in D.C., exit the station and walk to the nearby Red Line Metro at the Union Station Metro stop. Take the Metro to the Farragut North station, and from there, it is a short 5-minute walk northwest on 17th Street NW to the museum.
