From the Silver Spring Metro Station, exit onto Colesville Road and head to the bus stop at the intersection. Take the Ride On Bus Route 34 towards 'Kensington' or Route 5 towards 'Glenmont'. You will need to get off at the stop labeled 'Cabin John Park'. From there, walk west on MacArthur Boulevard for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance of the C&O Canal Lock 8. The walk will take approximately 10-15 minutes.

Bicycle
If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the bike-sharing stations in Silver Spring. Head towards the Capital Crescent Trail, which can be accessed near the Silver Spring Metro Station. Follow the trail northwest towards Cabin John. The ride is approximately 4 miles and will take about 15-20 minutes. Once you reach Cabin John Park, you can easily find Lock 8 along the canal.

Walking
If you’re feeling adventurous and up for a longer walk, you can walk from downtown Silver Spring to Lock 8. Start at the Silver Spring Metro Station and head northwest on Georgia Avenue. Continue on Georgia Avenue until you reach the intersection with MacArthur Boulevard. Turn right onto MacArthur Boulevard and walk for about 2 miles. Once you reach Cabin John Park, you will see signs for Lock 8 along the C&O Canal. The entire walk will take around 40-50 minutes.
