Walking
If you are in downtown Gloucester, start at the Gloucester Fishermen's Memorial on 1 Dale Avenue. Head east on Dale Avenue towards Washington Street, then turn left onto Washington Street. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Main Street. Turn right onto Main Street and proceed until you reach the Gloucester Harbor. From there, follow the water's edge along the harbor (you can take the scenic route along the water). This will lead you directly to the MBTA commuter rail station at 2 Railroad Avenue. Take the train towards Salem, which runs regularly. Once you arrive in Salem, exit the train station and head east on Washington Street. Continue straight until you reach Derby Street, then turn left. You will find the Salem Maritime National Historic Site at 160 Derby Street on your right.

Public Transportation
From anywhere in Gloucester, make your way to the nearest bus stop serviced by the Cape Ann Transportation Authority (CATA) Routes. You can take the CATA Route 11 bus towards Salem. The bus will take you through scenic areas, and the journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Get off at the Salem Depot stop. Upon exiting the bus, walk east on Washington Street until you reach Derby Street, then turn left. The Salem Maritime National Historic Site is located at 160 Derby Street.

Biking
If you prefer to bike, start from downtown Gloucester and utilize the bike-friendly routes. Head towards the Harbor Loop and take the scenic route along the coast on the bike paths. Follow the coastline and take the bike path that leads to the MBTA commuter rail station at 2 Railroad Avenue. Board the train heading towards Salem. Once you arrive in Salem, you can rent a bike or continue walking. Follow Washington Street east, and then turn left onto Derby Street. You will arrive at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site at 160 Derby Street.
