Getting There

  • Bus

    From the center of New Bedford, head to the nearest bus stop and take the Peter Pan Bus Lines heading towards Newport, RI. The journey will take about 1 hour. Once you arrive at the Newport Bus Terminal, exit the terminal and walk towards the intersection of America’s Cup Avenue and Memorial Boulevard. From there, you can catch the local Newport public transit bus (Route 67) that goes towards Bellevue Avenue. Get off at the Bellevue Avenue stop, and the Newport Mansions Preservation Society is a short walk from there.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from a local rental shop in New Bedford. Head south on Purchase Street until you reach the waterfront, then follow the bike path along the harbor. Continue on the bike path until you reach the end of the harbor, then follow the signs to Route 195 East. After approximately 12 miles of cycling, you will reach the outskirts of Newport. As you enter Newport, look for a bike-friendly route leading to Bellevue Avenue. The Newport Mansions Preservation Society is located at 424 Bellevue Ave, just off the main road.

  • Walking

    If you are up for a long walk, start from the New Bedford Whaling Museum and head southeast towards the waterfront. Walk along the harborfront until you reach the ferry terminal. Take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard, then transfer to a ferry to Newport. Once you arrive in Newport, walk towards America’s Cup Avenue, then turn left onto Memorial Boulevard. Continue straight until you reach Bellevue Avenue. The Newport Mansions Preservation Society will be on your right at 424 Bellevue Ave.
