    From the center of New Bedford, head north on Purchase Street toward Union Street. Continue walking straight until you reach the intersection with County Street. Turn left onto County Street and walk until you hit the waterfront. At the waterfront, turn right and follow the path along the water until you reach the ferry terminal. Take the ferry to Newport, Rhode Island. Once you arrive in Newport, exit the ferry terminal and walk north on Americas Cup Avenue. Continue straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Bellevue Avenue. Turn left onto Bellevue Avenue, and the Redwood Library and Athenaeum will be on your right at 50 Bellevue Ave.

    From downtown New Bedford, walk to the nearest bus stop on Purchase Street. Take the Peter Pan Bus Line (Route 2) heading towards Providence. Upon arrival in Providence, transfer to the RIPTA bus service (Route 60) heading towards Newport. Once in Newport, disembark at the stop on Bellevue Avenue. The Redwood Library and Athenaeum will be within a short walking distance from the bus stop, located at 50 Bellevue Ave.
