Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are near the Old Faithful area, head towards the Grand Loop Road. Follow the road south for approximately 12 miles. You will pass several iconic geothermal features, including the Black Sand Basin. Continue on the Grand Loop Road until you reach the West Thumb area. The West Thumb Information Station will be on your left-hand side as you approach.

  • Walking

    From the Lake Yellowstone Hotel area, walk west towards the Grand Loop Road. Once on the Grand Loop Road, turn right (north) and proceed for about 3 miles. The West Thumb Information Station will be on your right side shortly after you pass the West Thumb Geyser Basin. Enjoy the scenic views of Yellowstone Lake as you walk.

    If you are starting from the Fishing Bridge area, head south along the Grand Loop Road. Walk for approximately 6 miles, enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Yellowstone National Park. You will arrive at the West Thumb Information Station, which will be on your left side as you approach.
