Car
If you are driving from South Lake Tahoe, head north on US-50 E. Continue on US-50 E until you reach the junction with I-80 E. Merge onto I-80 E toward Reno. After approximately 20 miles, take exit 184 for CA-89 N toward Truckee. Follow CA-89 N for about 6 miles. Look for signs to Donner Lake, and turn right onto Donner Lake Road. Continue on Donner Lake Road until you reach the lake, where you can find various access points.
Public Transportation
To reach Donner Lake using public transportation, start by taking the BlueGO bus from South Lake Tahoe to the Stateline Transit Center. From there, catch the Amtrak Thruway bus service towards Truckee. The bus will take you directly to Truckee. Once you arrive in Truckee, you can either take a local taxi or rideshare service to Donner Lake. The lake is about 5 miles from the Truckee bus station, and the ride should take around 10-15 minutes.
