Breathtaking Views at Monjeau Lookout

Getting There

• Walking

  Start at the center of Ruidoso, near the intersection of Sudderth Drive and Mechem Drive. Head south on Mechem Drive for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance to Lincoln National Forest. From there, look for the trailhead marked for Monjeau Lookout. The trail is approximately 2 miles long and is moderately challenging, leading you through beautiful forested areas. Follow the marked path, and you will eventually reach Monjeau Lookout, where you can enjoy breathtaking views.

• Biking

  Begin your journey at the Ruidoso River Park. Head east on the paved bike path until you reach Sudderth Drive. Turn left onto Sudderth Drive, then continue until you reach Mechem Drive. Turn right onto Mechem Drive and follow it for about 0.5 miles to the entrance of Lincoln National Forest. Once you reach the trailhead for Monjeau Lookout, you can lock your bike and hike the remaining 2 miles to the lookout. The trail is well-marked and offers some elevation gain, providing a great workout along with stunning views.

• Public Transportation

  While direct public transport options to Monjeau Lookout are limited, you can take the local bus service (check the Ruidoso local transit schedule) to the nearest stop on Mechem Drive. From there, walk approximately 0.5 miles south to the entrance of Lincoln National Forest. Follow the trail signs to Monjeau Lookout, which is about 2 miles from the trailhead. This route will offer you a unique opportunity to experience the local scenery and wildlife.
