Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of White Sands, head southeast toward Highway 70. Follow the highway on foot; it is approximately a 5-mile walk. Keep an eye out for signs directing you toward Alamogordo, as Oliver Lee Memorial State Park is located outside of White Sands. After about 1.5 miles, you will come to the intersection with Dog Canyon Road. Turn left onto Dog Canyon Road and continue walking for approximately 2.5 miles. You will see the entrance to Oliver Lee Memorial State Park on your right.

    If you have access to a bike, this can make your journey quicker and easier. Start from the main entrance of White Sands and head southeast toward Highway 70. Follow the highway for about 5 miles. When you reach Dog Canyon Road, turn left. Continue along Dog Canyon Road for about 2.5 miles, and you will arrive at Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, which will be on your right. Be mindful of traffic, especially on the highway.
