Car
If you're driving from central Long Island, take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) westbound towards New York City. Merge onto the Queensboro Bridge (59th Street Bridge) towards Manhattan. Once you cross the bridge, follow signs for the FDR Drive. Take exit 12 towards East 96th Street. Continue on East 96th Street until you reach 2nd Ave, then turn left. Follow 2nd Ave until you reach East 42nd Street and make a right. Continue to the end, and you will see the Roosevelt Island Tram station. Park nearby if you can find available spaces (note that parking can be limited).

Public Transportation - Subway
From anywhere in Long Island, take the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to Penn Station in Manhattan. Once you arrive at Penn Station, transfer to the subway. Take the A, C, or E train to 42nd Street - Port Authority Bus Terminal. From there, transfer to the 7 train towards Flushing and get off at the 1st stop, which is the 42nd Street - Times Square station. From Times Square, take the N, Q, R, or W train to 57th Street - Seventh Avenue, then transfer to the F train towards Jamaica - 179th Street. Get off at Roosevelt Island Station. Follow the signs to the Roosevelt Island Tram, which will take you directly to Roosevelt Island. The tram ride offers great views of the city. The fare is $2.75.

Walk east along Main Street, as the Roosevelt Island Lighthouse is located at 910 Main St. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the tram station.
